1,261,960. Light shutter array. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 2 Dec., 1969 [25 Feb., 1969], No. 58794/69. Heading H4F. [Also in Division G5] Relates to an array of columns and rows of light valves using electrostatic deflection of a shutter plate and which is suitable for reproducing television pictures. As shown, a first portion 52 of each valve comprises a metal shutter plate 64 which is cantilevered on a support bar 66 on a glass plate 56 and is connected to row addressing lines 58 via a diode 60 or other non-linear impedance serving to prevent operation of one valve affecting the others. A second portion 54 comprises metal valve walls 72 connected to respective column addressing lines 73 on a glass plate 70. The plates 64 and walls 72 are aligned and portions 52, 54 connected so that a resistor 68 on the edge of plate 64 contacts a wall 72. The time constant of the resistor 68 and the capacitance of the valve is much greater than that of a television field period. The portion 54 is provided with an insulating layer 78, and for a colour display the layer in successive cells may be alternately a red, green and blue photo-resist. The description includes precise details of the order and manner in which the various components are deposited on the plates 56, 70 and the claims are directed to a process for fabricating the array. The valves may each include two shutter plates as described in U.S.A. Specification 3,553,364. |
