The appliance has a frame with a shutter (2) pivoted about a horizontal axis. The pivot shaft has two bearing elements, each formed by a sleeve and an axle journal (1) turning in it. A sealing ring is located between axle journal and sleeve, and a sealing lip (8) between shutter and frame (11) is pref. fastened to the shutter and encloses the complete shutter periphery. The sleeve or axle journal has a stop to limit the pivot movement. One, some, or all of the components are of heat-insulating material. The shutter is moved pref. by an electric motor, or automatically dependent upon climatic conditions, pref. room/outside temperature or humidity.
