The device for the releasable locking of a mouth of a load hook has flat oppositely lying side plates (9) fastened on both sides on a locking element (8). The side plates cover the part of the load hook (2) including the hook point (3) located below the support element which is especially a load eye for the suspension of a piece of lifting equipment. The two side plates together with the locking element form a U-form cover (7) which can be pushed onto the load hook.
