A method of knitting a tubular knitted fabric, which improves the feeling of right and left edges formed along the opening portion of a tubularly-knitted knit wear such as a cardigan and a front-opening vest, which uses a flat knitting machine to form a longitudinally-extending opening portion (2) and allow right and left edges (21, 22) extending along an opening portion (2) to overlap front to rear in two layers when the wear is worn, and which comprises the step of repeating a course knitting while right and left edges (21, 22) assigned to one of needle beds are arranged side by side, and a proper number of wales positioned at the side edge of the knitting width of at least one of the right and left knitted fabrics on the side of forming an opening portion (2) for knitting are allowed to run around a knitted fabric side to be knitted and assigned to opposite another needle bed, the step of performing a decreased knitting on a knitted fabric on the side of forming the opening portion (2) to widen the opening portion (2), and the step of transferring side edge wales allowed to run around another needle bed to the outside of a knitted fabric on the side of forming the opening portion (2).
