PURPOSE: To provide a more light-weight and thinner liquid crystal display and its assembling method preferably permitting easier assembly works of it. CONSTITUTION: First install a lamp unit 9 inside a backside chassis 1. Then sequentially stack a reflection sheet 2, an optical waveguide 3, a first diffusion sheet 4, a first lens sheet 5, a second lens sheet 6, a second diffusion sheet 7 and a liquid crystal display panel 8 within a area surrounded by a rim 11, a rim 12 and a nose 13a. A boss section 14 is formed so as to press the optical waveguide 3 against the nose 13a. Therefore the boss section 14 is kept away from both the reflection sheet 2 and the optical waveguide 3 to mount the reflection sheet 2 and the optical waveguide 3 on the backside chassis 1 and then return the boss section 14 to its original position. Consequently the light entering face of the optical waveguide 3 will contact to the illuminating face of the lamp unit 9.
