1,263,418. Mattresses. MILTON ROY CO. Aug.3, 1970 [Aug.1, 1969], No.37420/70. Heading A4M. A mattress comprises a foam plastics core 1 formed by a plurality of layers 11-14 of different densities and enclosed in an air-tight envelope, means 3, 4a for adjustably inflating the envelope, an open core foam layer 2 overlying the envelope, and means 3, 4 for supplying air to the layer 2 so that it escapes through the top of the layer 2 to ventilate the user. A further foam layer 5 may overlie the layer 2. The assembly of foam layers 1, 2, 5 is contained within a fabric envelope 6. The top of the air-tight envelope is anchored to a base board 16 by cords 17. The envelope may be partitioned to provide a separately inflatable peripheral chamber. The mattress may be subdivided into separately inflatable chambers extending widthwise of the mattress and secured together along parallel, tranverse hinge lines (26-28) Fig.4 (not shown).
