PHOSPHORUS-CONTAINING POLYMER HAVING PHENOLIC UNITS AND USES THEREOF

This invention discloses a novel phosphorus-containing polymer having phenolic units. The polymer is comprised of the following repeating units: wherein each symbol is defined the same as in the specification; (b) a phophorus-containing repeating unit which is selected from any one of following formulae (b1) or (b2): wherein each symbol is defined the same as m the specification; or wherein each symbol is defined the same as in the specification; and an unit of the following formula (c), which is an optional component: wherein each symbol is defined the same as in the specification. This invention also discloses the use of said phosphorus-containing polymer having phenolic units for manufacturing prepregs, composite material, laminated entities, printed circuit boards and electronic packaging material. The products obtained from the phosphorus-containing polymer of this invention have good processing properties, excellent flame retardant properties and resistance to heat high enough that they do not require additional flame retardants.
