PURPOSE: A backlight for a display device is provided to light a plurality of fluorescent lamps disposed in parallel by using a single inverter for obtaining minimized light-weight display device at a low cost, wherein the luminance distribution in the fluorescent lamps is uniformly maintained, increasing the light emitting efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A backlight for a display device includes fluorescent lamps(4) having surrounded outer electrodes(16) formed of a conductive material at a side of a glass tube(2) injected with discharging gas and inner electrodes(18) inserted into the glass tube at the other side of the glass tube, supporting elements(6,8) formed of a conductive material and supporting both ends of the fluorescent lamps, and a reflection sheet(12) disposed at a lower part of the fluorescent lamps for reflecting light generated by the fluorescent lamps upwardly. |
