The mantle tube, for a swing vehicle steering column which passes through the instrument panel, has a flexible shrouding where it emerges from the panel. A sleeve (9) is around the steering column where it emerges from the panel, which slides at the panel in the swing direction of the steering column. The flexible shrouding (8) is between the frame (6) of the sleeve fixed to the panel, and the instrument panel itself. The steering column has an axial sliding movement at the inner surface (9a) of the sleeve.
