The tension chuck has a socket (1) holding the shaft end and with a slit (5) for holding a circular curved locking member (6) of a sleeve (7). The slit is wider than the curved member and the latter can be moved in the insert direction of the shaft end in the slit so that it is located outside of the active area of the clamping face (11) or clamping edge. The curved member is movable in the insert direction against the force of a spiral spring.
