Novel dodecahydrobenz[e]indene derivatives of the formula in which V represents hydrogen or a C 1-7 alkyl or aryl group or an alkali metal cation, R<SP>1</SP> 2 is hydrogen, C 1-7 alkyl, C 1-7 alkoxy-C 1-7 alkyl or phenyl-C 1-7 alkyl; R 4 is hydrogen or C 1-7 alkyl and R is a group of the formula in which W is an alkylene or arylene radical, are prepared by hydrogenating a compound of the formula in which R 1 is a group of the formula (a) above and; if desired, cleaving the ketal group to obtain the compound in which R is (b) above. Catalytic hydrogenation over Pd/charcoa and hydrolysis of the ketal with dilute HCl are preferred. Examples describe the preparation of sodium salt and methyl ester of 3#-t-butoxy- 1,2,3,3a,4,5,5a,6,8,9,9a,9b - dodecahydro - 3a#- methyl - 6α- (3 - oxobutyl) - 7 - oxo - 7H- benz[e]inden - 8α- carboxylic acid and the ethylene ketals thereof.</p> |
