Extruded plastic strands(KS) move down an inclined drainage channel(1) flushed with cooling water and the water is extracted(70) at the lower end of the channel. Along a following temperature balancing section one or more porous conveyer belts(10) collect the strands at the end of the water extraction zone and transport them to a granulator(50). The water extraction zone has an adjustable shut-off(71,72) which enables the amount of water extracted to be varied to suit the required cooling conditions. Preferred Features: The shut-off(71,72) comprises two grids which move relative to each other.
