<p>A process for producing bisphenol A by condensing phenol with acetone with the aid of an acid-form ion-exchange resin catalyst partly modified with a sulfurized amine compound, wherein the modified acid-form ion-exchange resin is one having a degree of modification of 10 to 20 mol%, excluding 20 mol%, when the acetone has a methanol concentration lower than 250 wt. ppm and is one having a degree of modification of 20 to 65 mol% when the acetone has a methanol concentration of 250 to 8,000 wt. ppm. By the process, the catalytic activity is inhibited from being reduced by the methanol contained as an impurity in the acetone. Thus, bisphenol A can be produced at a high conversion.</p> |
