A sliding screen assembly including a frame having an inner channel and an outer channel slidably retaining an inner sash respectively, each of said inner sash and said outer sash framing a security mesh, wherein said inner sash includes a latch section (6) substantially perpendicular to the inner channel and a latch (9) hingedly connected to the latch section (6) and wherein said outer sash includes a lock section (7) substantially perpendicular to the outer channel having a detent (31) against which the latch (9) engages in a closed condition wherein the latch section (6) and the lock section (7) respectively have opposed projections (21, 32) wherein said opposed projections (21, 32) intersect in a plane parallel to the plane of either one of the sashes.
