PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift device capable of preventing the malfunction of a selective operating means in a predetermined condition of a vehicle. SOLUTION: A selecting device 1 forming this shift device is provided with a cross shift gate 2a mounted on a panel 2, and a shift lever 3 operated along the shift gate 2a. The momentary shift lever 3 returning to an original position when released from a hand in operation, is adopted. A basic end of the rod part 3a of the shift lever 3 is provided with a spherical part 3c larger than the rod part 3a. A spherical part 3c is slidably and rotatably accommodated in a recessed part 4a of a holder 4 in a state of fitting each guide projection 3d of the spherical part 3c into each guide groove 4b. A recessed part 3e for locking is formed on a lower side of the spherical part 3c. A lower part of the holder 4 is provided with a solenoid 6, and a tip of a plunger is provided with a vertically reciprocatable lock pin 6a. When a car speed becomes higher than a predetermined speed, the solenoid 6 is energized, and the lock pin 6a is upwardly moved to be fitted in the recessed part 3e for locking.
