PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device capable of suppressing the contact of a paper feeding belt with a sheet by separating the paper feeding belt from a separating roller without impairing a paper feed separating performance, a sheet conveying device, an image reader, and an image forming device. SOLUTION: This paper feeding device comprises the paper feeding belt 21 for conveying a document S in paper feeding direction, the separating roller 6 for separating the document S one by one by coming into contact with the paper feeding belt 21 and rotating in reverse direction, a separating member such as a collar 91 for separating the separating roller 6 from the paper feeding belt 21, a contact pad 80a for stopping the document carried to the paper feeding belt 21 and the nip part of the separating roller 6 is carried in the direction revere to that of the paper feeding direction by the separating roller 6, and a spring 81 for energizing a pad 80 including the pad 80a to a document table 1 side.
