<p>Bio-erodible ophthalmic shields comprising gelatin, a glycosaminoglycan (for example chondroitin sulfate) and carboxymethyl cellulose, and a method of treating a traumatized or "dry" eye by administering the gelatin-based ophthalmic shields to the traumatized eye. The ophthalmic shields are bio-compatible and bio-erodible in traumatized, non-traumatized and dry eyes. The gelatin-based ophthalmic shields can further include one or more therapeutically active substances that will be released to the eye.</p> |
