PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder for preventing the contact with a feed roller in a stand-by condition and the lowering of carrying accuracy due to back tension even when using a rolled paper sheet. SOLUTION: The paper feeder SF having a restricting member protruded somewhat to a feed passage for a recording medium P beyond a feed roller SF at a stand-by position during stopping of the feed roller SF for restricting the displacement of the recording medium P in the direction of contacting a feed roller 51 comprises a feed roller cover 11 disposed as the restricting member having a long size in the cross direction of the recording medium P and a contact face 25 with a less friction coefficient for restricting the distortion of the recording medium P on the contact face 25 at the end of the feed roller cover 11 and preventing the contact with the feed roller 51 to cause no back tension.
