摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel wire for a wire saw, which has high strength satisfying a tensile strength of >=3,800 MPa and high wear resistance satisfying a silicon crystal cut area of >=90 m<3> , and a production method therefor. SOLUTION: The steel wire for a wire saw has a composition containing 0.95 to 2.0% C, 0.15 to 0.30% Si, 0.2 to 0.6% Mn and <=0.005% Al, or further containing one or more kinds selected from 0.05 to 1.5% Ni, 0.05 to 2.0% Cr, 0.05 to 0.5% Mo and 0.01 to 0.5% V, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The steel wire has a structure consisting of pearlite 1 or a mixture of pearlite and bainite including 15 to 30 vol.% lamellar cementite. The main point of the production method is that, in patenting, the cooling rate from an austenitizing treatment temperature to a transforming treatment temperature is controlled to >=500 deg.C/s.
