PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compatibly establish superior suction force on carried sheet materials and no damage to the carried sheet materials. SOLUTION: This suction roll comprises a cylindrical body 3 formed in an approximately cylindrical shape and adapted to be rotated while being sucked from a number of vent holes 11 made in the cylindrical body 3 for carrying the carried sheet materials. The outer periphery face of the cylindrical body 3 is covered with a cylinder in an approximately hollow cylindrical shape in which a number of suction holes are made. The opening of each suction hole in the cylinder 4 is smaller than the opening of each vent hole 11 in the cylindrical body 3.
