SOLUTION: Until the temperature of a gas sensor element is raised to reach a temperature where each solid electrolytic laminated layer 1, 12, 13 is operable, a minute potential having a polarity for moving oxygen to a reference oxygen chamber side is applied to second electrodes 321 and 322. Accordingly, oxygen can be prevented from being drawn to a second measurement chamber 22, and the oxygen concentration of the second measuring chamber 22 can be reduced after activation to determine nitrogen oxide concentration. |
