PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce furfural in good yield from furan, N,N-dimethylformamide and phosgene in a condition suppressed in scaling. SOLUTION: This method for producing a furfural comprises a process (1) in which a furan is reacted by mixing with N,N-dimethylformamide and phosgene in the presence of an organic solvent and a process (2) for treating the reaction mixture obtained in the process (1) to be hydrolyzed and, in the process (1), the reaction is carried out while adding, N,N-dimethylformamide and phosgene to the reaction system.
