PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new agent for ameliorating hepatic functions of the residual liver during or after operation of hepatectomy, especially the agent for ameliorating the hepatic functions of the liver having the hepatic dysfunctions of the residual liver after the hepatectomy in hepatic carcinoma, etc. SOLUTION: This ameliorant for the hepatic functions of the residual liver after the hepatectomy comprises a 2(1H)-pyridinone derivative represented by the general formula (1) (PY denotes a pyridinyl group or a condensed pyridinyl group which may be substituted with one or two lower alkyl groups; R<1> denotes hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; R<2> denotes hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; and Q denotes nitro group, cyano group, hydrogen atom carbamyl group, a halogen atom or amino group) or one or more kinds of its pharmaceutically acceptable salt or a solvate thereof as active ingredients.
