PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier capable of being returned to an original stop position before movement even when the carrier under a stop condition is moved due to an external factor. SOLUTION: When the carrier during printing is stopped according to a command from a PC, a count value of a position counter indicating the stop position is stored in a RAM. When movement of the carrier under the stop condition is detected, if this movement is decided to be due to the external factor, the data on the count value stored in the RAM is read by a CPU, and the carrier is moved, driven by a carrier motor. The carrier motor is driven until the count value of the position counter by the movement of the carrier accord with the readout count value. Thus, the carrier is moved up to the original stop position (S2). Consequently, when printing is started based on next printing data, normal printing is secured.
