PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a number of parts, and reduce size and cost, in an engine starting device in which reduction mechanism, power convert mechanism, and a clutch are provided between a pinion and an electric motor. SOLUTION: The clutch 22 is constituted of: a transmission shaft part 23 formed on a motor shaft 13; a transmission cylinder 24 having the same outer diameter as that of the transmission shaft 23 and rotatably supported on the motor shaft 13 while opposing the transmission shaft 23; and a coil spring 25 wound, in accordance with a rotation of the transmission shaft 23 accompanied with a rotation in one direction of the motor shaft 13, to the transmission shaft 23 and the transmission cylinder 24 in a direction of fastening the transmission shaft 23 and the transmission cylinder 24. The reduction mechanism and the power convert mechanism are constituted of: a drive skew gear 31 coaxially fixed to the transmission cylinder 24; and a driven skew gear 32 coaxially fixed to the pinion 36 and meshed with the drive skew gear 31.
