PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink for ink jet recording which, in an ink jet printer where a part of a member brought into contact with an ink is formed of anyone of glass, silicon, silicon oxide, or silicon oxide film, titanium nitride film, zirconium film, titanium oxide film and silicon nitride film, can prevent elution of the above materials thereby preventing change in size of an ink droplet and in delivery speed and delivery failure and is excellent in dispersion stability and dissolution stability. SOLUTION: The water-based ink composition comprises as main components a coloring material and water and further contains at least one of cationic ions or cationic substances consisting of a sulfonium ion of general formula 1, an arsonium ion of general formula 2 (wherein Ra-Rd are each a 1-4C alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, a halogenoalkyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group; and X is a counter-ion), a B compound, a Be<2+> ion, an Al<3+> ion, a Zn<2+> ion, a Ti<4+> ion, a Zr<4+> ion and/or a Si<2+> ion. |
