摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problems with a proton exchange optical waveguide; the proton concentration distribution in this optical waveguide has a diffusion distribution to maximize the proton concentration on a substrate surface and the high-concentration proton exchange segment near the surface of the proton exchange optical waveguide is the cause for the propagation loss and light loss of the optical waveguide, thus heretofore causing the instability of output and the degradation in conversion efficiency. SOLUTION: This optical wavelength conversion element is provided with a layer partly decreased in the proton concentration near the surface of the proton exchange optical waveguide 3, by which the propagation loss of the optical waveguide is lessened and the conversion efficiency of the optical wavelength conversion element can be greatly improved.</p>
