PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head capable of reducing loss of printing energy. SOLUTION: Common electrodes 2 and individual electrodes 3 are formed on an insulated substrate in such a manner as to alternately face one another and engage with one another. A belt-shaped heating element 1 is formed in an upper layer of the electrodes 2 and 3. An arrangement is done so that both ends of the electrodes 2 and 3 can be housed in a lower layer, in which the heating element 1 is formed, in such a manner that a width W1 of a part formed by engagement of the electrodes 2 and 3 with one another is approximately equal in dimension to an interval P between the adjacent electrodes 2.
