PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording had capable of achieving high density by preventing deformation of barrier walls between respective pressure generating chambers, and an ink jet recording method. SOLUTION: In the ink jet recording head 100 provided with a nozzle plate 10 having a plurality of nozzle orifices 11 formed therein, and a flow channel forming substrate 30 having a plurality of pressure generating chambers 31 communicating with the nozzle orifices, slits 34' having the same width as that of the direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the pressure generating chambers are formed on the whole surface of the flow channel forming substrate 30' before being made thinner by polishing. Thus, a uniform polishing pressure is applied to the whole face of the flow channel forming substrate, and the possibilities of generating fluctuations of thickness in the flow channel forming substrate due to uneven polishing is reduced, so that an extremely thin flow channel forming substrate can be accurately manufactured. Furthermore external heat during an assembling process or breakage by an external force can be prevented.
