The device for temporary storage of metal or plastic chips which are tangled together and have a residual moisture content of no more than 5% has a storage chamber (2) with smooth walls. The cross-section of the chamber from the inlet (3) to the outlet (4) is constant or increases and its floor slopes downwards. The outlet is closed by a flap (6, 7).
