PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent sheets from being double-fed in a paper feeding device which separates the sheets by a slope separating system using a rubber separating member. SOLUTION: In this paper feeding device for feeding the paper sheets to a specified position by separating the paper sheets one by one from the upper surface of a paper sheet group in the direction parallel to the upper surface, a mechanism for separating the paper sheets from the paper sheet group is formed of the rubber separating member 7 preventing the movement of the paper sheet group in a separating direction by abutting on the one side face of the paper sheet group and having a surface 7a with a gradient in the separating direction of a specified angleθ. The movement of the paper sheet at the uppermost position when a specified magnitude of force is given in the separating direction to the paper sheet at the uppermost position of the paper sheet group is allowed but the movement of the paper sheet below that paper sheet is prevented. The paper feeding device comprises a double feeding prevention member 9 coming in slidable contact with the feeding direction tip part of the paper sheet to be separated from the sheet group and having a slidably contact surface 9a having a gradient in the separating direction larger than an angleθ.
