PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferrule member that can be ground highly precisely and stably and also to provide a grinding apparatus that can produce a high quality ferrule member by so grinding. SOLUTION: The grinding apparatus S is designated to grind each of the oppositely facing end faces 31, 32 to be joined in the ferrule member 30 that is formed nearly in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped. The apparatus is equipped with a holding device 1 for retaining the ferrule member 30, a grinder 2 installed at a position where the grinder can come into contact with the joining end face 32 of the ferrule member 30 retained by the holding device 1, and a driving device 3 for rotating the grinder 2. The holding device 1 is equipped with an engaging member 9c shaped correspondingly to the groove 37 which is V- or U-shaped in the cross-sectional view and which is provided in parallel to the end faces 31, 32 to be joined.
