PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens interchangeable camera which can increase the degree of freedom for developing a photographic lens with an added new function and also increase the versatility of the photographic lens and the camera. SOLUTION: The camera body of the lens interchangeable camera has a body control means having a function for communicating body state communication data showing the operation state of the camera body and individual function communication data for individual functions of the mounted photographic lens and the body control means communicates the body state communication data to the photographic lens side without discriminating the type of the photographic lens and also communicates the individual function communication data to the photographic lens side by discriminating the type of the mounted photographic lens; and the photographic lens is equipped with a lens control means having a communication function for communicating with the control means of the camera body and the lens control means discriminates the body state to perform the functional operation of the lens and also operates according to the individual function communication data when receiving the data.
