PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing a 2-oxopropanamine derivative which is an important intermediate for phenylalkanoic acid amides exhibiting an excellent fungicidal activity. SOLUTION: This method for producing a 2-oxopropanamine derivative represented by general formula [4] (wherein, R<1> and R<2> denote each independently hydrogen atom, a 1-6C alkyl group or the like) or its chemically acceptable salt is characterized by reacting a propargyl alcohol derivative represented by general formula [1] wherein, R<1> and R<2> denote each the same meaning as described above; Z denotes a group -C(O)R<3> or the like) with nitriles represented by the general formula [2] YCN [2] (wherein, Y denotes hydrogen atom or a 1-6C alkyl group) in the presence of an acid, producing an amide compound represented by general formula [3] (wherein, R<1> R<2> and Y denote each the same meaning as described above) and then treating the resultant amide compound with an acid.
