PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate waste of ink ribbon to save material resources and reduce a running cost, and also to avoid smearing the printing medium to improve print quality with improvement of control method without use of additional parts. SOLUTION: A printing part 1 includes an ink ribbon 3 and a print head 4, and presses in contact with a printing medium P on a platen 2 during printing. When the printing part 1 is released from the medium P, backward tension Fr (forward pulling tension Ff) on the ribbon 3 is released before the part 1 comes apart from the medium P, and the backward tension Fr (the tension Ff) is given again on the ribbon 3 after the part 1 has got apart from the medium P.
