PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of making a sample for observing a section, wherein the position of the section of a rigid layer and that of a soft layer concide with each other and a smooth section can be obtained with good reproducibility. SOLUTION: This method is for making a sample used for observing the section of a material having a soft layer C sandwiched between a first rigid layer A and a second rigid layer B. In the method, a rectilinear score X is given to the surface position of the rigid layer A corresponding to a desired section of the soft layer C, and a circular cut Y is provided from the rear position of the rigid layer B corresponding to the above-mentioned section desired, and at need, some supplementary cuts Z are provided, and a tensile stress is added in a direction intersecting the above-mentioned section desired at right angles.
