PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high contrast silver halide photosensitive material having low fog and high sensitivity, less liable to fog in long-term storage and causing a small sensitivity change with age after exposure. SOLUTION: In the silver halide photographic sensitive material having at least one silver halide emulsion layer on the base, the at least one silver halide emulsion layer contains at least one compound of the formula [Aux Chy Mz ]Wn [where Ch is S, Se or Te; M is an alkali metal; W is a counter ion required to neutralize an electric charge of the compound; (x), (y) and (n) are each an integer of >=1; and (z) is an integer of 0-2].
