PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for determining the linear position of a moving member where codes are arranged. SOLUTION: The code includes a series of data fields, and the data field has characters at least to the number of n-pieces in the prescribed interval of the codes, and includes a frame synchronized symbol. A sensor reads the code on a prescribed part of the moving member. The prescribed part of the member includes the code having one or more frame synchronized symbols and the characters to the number of n-pieces. The sensor transmits a data signal as a function of the read code. In order to receive the data signal, a processing device is connected to the sensor. The processing device transmits a position signal for showing the linear position of the moving member as a function of the data signal.
