A hinge for use with an article, having a door or a lid, including a first body 1 and a second body 2, pivotally secured to the first body. The first body includes a cam surface 4, which, in use, is subjected to a force and the second body includes a lobe 23 to engage the cam surface, so that as the lid, or the door, approaches the limits of its travel during opening and/or closing, a resistance to that travel is applied. The cam is subject to a force which may be provided by two compression springs 3, while the cam surface may be arcuate in shape. In use, the cam and lobe arrangement may be such that the door is assisted in its movement initially, with a braking force applied, as the door reaches its travel limit. The hinge arrangement may be used on a fridge door. |
