PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dyeing ink suitable for dyeing a plastic lens and a method of dyeing by using the ink in the method for dyeing a plastic lens by gas phase transfer by using an ink jet printer. SOLUTION: The dyeing ink is subjected to the processes of applying the dyeing ink on a specified base body by an ink jet printer and subliming the dyeing ink applied on the base body in a non-contact state with the plastic lens to dye the plastic lens. The ink contains a hydrophobic dyeing material having subliming property, preferably the dyeing material expressed by general formula 1 (wherein R is a hydrogen atom or ether group) and a dispersant to disperse the dyeing material in a water-based medium. The method for dyeing a plastic lens is shown in Fig. 1 including a paper sheet 1, color layer 2, plastic lens 3, printing base body 10, vacuum gas phase transfer machine 20, tool for dyeing 30, ink jet printer 40, ink cartridge 41, personal computer 50 and oven 60. |
