<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas turbocharger to reduce a turbolag in its transmitting from a decelerating operating condition to an accelerating operating condition. SOLUTION: In the exhaust gas turbocharger provided with measures enabling changing an exhaust gas passage area on the upstream side of a turbine of the exhaust gas turbocharger, and a controller to determine a target exhaust passage area based on an engine load and to control so that the target exhaust passage area in a low-load region becomes larger than that in a low or medium speed and high-load region, the controller determines whether an engine is in the decelerating operating condition or not based on an engine load variation detected by an engine load detective measure, and the apparatus has a holding means to hold the target exhaust passage area when the controller determines the engine is in the decelerating operating condition, the holding means holds so that the target exhaust passage area is reduced for a certain period of time after the determination of the decelerating operating condition.</p> |
