PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method capable of enhancing the image quality of a transfer image, a transfer film and an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 uses a printing medium C and a soft transfer film F having water solubility and a smooth printing surface and is equipped with a printing part 4 for printing an image on the soft transfer film F using sublimable dye ink, a superposition part 5 for superposing the printing surface of the soft transfer film F on the surface of the printing medium C in opposed relationship and a transfer part 6 for subjecting the soft transfer film F and the printing medium C to pressure contact treatment under heating to diffuse and develop the sublimable dye ink held to the soft transfer film F on the surface of the printing medium C to form an color image.
