PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can operate on a low voltage, and provide high-quality images with less display unevenness caused by an afterimage phenomenon. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a pair of first substrate 101 and a second substrate 102, at least one of which is transparent, a liquid crystal layer 110 and color filter layer 111 disposed between the first substrate 101 and the second substrate 102, a plurality of thin film transistors 116, which are placed on the first substrate 101 and connected to video signals wiring 106 and scanning signals wiring 104, common electrodes 103 which provide a reference potential, and pixel electrodes 105, which are connected to the thin film transistors 116 and placed opposite to the common electrodes 103 in the pixel area. In the liquid crystal display, the common electrodes 103 and the pixel electrodes 105 are disposed in different layers through the medium of a laminar interlayer insulating film comprising at least two layers including the color filter layer 111.
