PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new silicon compound having a low viscosity, a low threshold voltage and improved compatibility, a liquid crystal composition containing the same, and a liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: A silicon compound of the general formula (1) (wherein, Y<1> is a 1-10C alkylene or the like; Y<2> is a 1-10C alkyl or the like, and an arbitrary -CH2 - group of the alkyl may be substituted with -O- or the like; A<1> to A<4> are each independently 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, a 1,4-phenylene whose arbitrary -H is substituted with a halogen, or the like; Z<1> to Z<3> are each independently a single bond or the like; and p and q are each independently 0 or 1). A liquid crystal composition containing the silicon compound and a liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal composition are also provided. |
