PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide martensitic stainless steel which has cold workability and temper hardness equal to or above those of SUS420J2, and has corrosion resistance equal to or above that of SUS316 being austenitic stainless steel. SOLUTION: The high hardness martensitic stainless steel having excellent corrosion resistance has a composition containing, by weight, <0.15% C, 0.10 to 1.0% Si, 0.10 to 2.0% Mn, <=0.010% S, 12.0 to 18.5% Cr, 0.40 to 0.80% N, <0.030% Al and <0.020% O, and the balance substantially Fe.
