PURPOSE: Provided are fluoro-alpha,omega-bis((fluoroalkyl)fluorophosphorano)alkanes, a process for preparing perfluoroalkylphosphoranes (B) of various structures in high yields, and their use as intermediates. CONSTITUTION: The fluoro-alpha,omega-bis((fluoroalkyl)fluorophosphorano)alkane is represented by the formula(1):(CnF2n+1-mHm)yPF4-y(CR1R2)xPF4-y(CnF2n+1-mHm)y in which n is 1-8, m is 0-2 for n is 1 or 2, m is 0-4 for n is 3-8, x is 1-12, y is 0-2, and where R1 and R2 are each independently fluorine, hydrogen, alkyl, fluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkyl, and each substituent (CnF2n+1-mHm) and the number Y of the substituents on phosphorus centers PF4-y are each independently selected, with the proviso that perfluoro-1,2-bis(diethyldifluorophosphorano)ethane is excluded.
