The closure component (1) is for closing an envelope (5) along one edge (6) and comprises an elongated strip of foldable material (2) with a length corresponding to that of the envelope edge. The strip on a first side along two edge zones extending longitudinally opposite to one another is provided with an adhesive layer (3). The adhesive layer is covered with a releasable cover strip. The closure component is provided with a folding seam (4) in a longitudinal direction for folding the strip around with the first side provided with the adhesive layer in the inward direction.
