PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electronic endoscope system for normally performing a proper image signal processing irrespective of the combination of an endoscope with an endoscope video signal processor. SOLUTION: The connector part 20 of the electronic endoscope 10 having a CCD corresponding to a VGA standard is provided with a video signal processing circuit 22, a buffer 23 and a system control circuit 26. An ID data transmission request is transmitted from the system control circuit 26 to the connected video signal processor 30 via a terminal group 27c. It is judged that the processor is the conventional type video signal processor 30 unless response is received concerning the ID data transmission request for a prescribed time and, then, an analog image signal based on NTSC is outputted to the processor 30. The video signal processing circuit 22 performs the down processing of the image signal and the image processing of a color tone, etc., in accordance with a connected machine kind.
