PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire electric discharge machine that can improve a machining speed and machining accuracy and prevent a wire-like electrode from breaking. SOLUTION: A counter 7 counts the number of electric discharge pulses generated between a wire-like electrode 4 and a workpiece 5 every specified time. A comparison determination unit 9 computes the ratio Px/Ps (where Px is enumerated data and Ps is the number of pulses stored in a reference electric discharge pulse number memory 8). According to the ratio, a feed amount obtained by a feed pulse arithmetic unit 13 in a specified time is controlled. In addition, according to the ratio Px/Ps or the like, an electric discharge downtime control unit 16 controls a downtime controlled by a detection voltage generator 2. Furthermore, according to the ratio Px/Ps, a liquid amount control unit 17 controls a coolant amount. This stops surplus energy supply, improves the machining speed and machining accuracy, and prevents the wire-like electrode from breaking.
