SUBSTANCE: rigidly assembled cathode has body 23 carrying on its end emitting part 26; cathode body is held in position inside envelope 22 by means of support facilities incorporating first set of taps 31 wherein each tap is connected on one end to cathode body 23 and on other end, to intermediate part 30 and second set of taps 32 wherein each tap 32 is connected on one end to envelope 22 and on other end, to same intermediate part 30.
